Helena Sadílková

is head of the Department of Romani Studies (Institute of Ethnology, Central European and Balkan Studies, Charles University, Prague), where she teaches Romani language and history. She is co-editor-in-chief of a Czech peer-reviewed Romani Studies journal Romano džaniben. Her main area of research is the post-war history of Roma in Europe, with a focus on the negotiation of the position of Roma in Czechoslovak society and memory landscape. She co-authored a book on Romani social and political participation in Czechoslovakia during 1948-1969 and is currently working on research of the Romani and Sinti survivors’ struggle for public recognition of the genocide of the Roma in Czechoslovakia under state socialism. She is also involved in an initiative to include history and culture of the Roma in Czech school curricula.
