Witness Statements by Roma and Sinti in Their Search for Recognition
The project focuses on a detailed analysis of the applications of Roma and Sinti for recognition of their discrimination during the Second World War on the basis of Law 255 from 1946. In the first phase, we are collecting data with the aim of processing at least 1,000 applications from Slovak and Czech Roma and Sinti. The applications were submitted between 1946 and 2005 and contain unique information about the course of the genocide of Roma and Sinti and their resistance both in partisan struggle and as soldiers of the Red Army. The applications also document the difficult process of the Czechoslovak state's recognition of the genocide of the Roma and Sinti.
The project is funded by Erinnerung - Verantwortung - Zukunft Foundation.
