

Rafael Buhigas Jiménez
holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Complutense University of Madrid. During his pre-doctoral studies, his main research focused on the life of Roma people in contemporary Madrid. Through a pre-doctoral FPI-UCM contract, he developed his thesis entitled “Roma people facing the urban crisis in Madrid (1959-1986)”. Before obtaining his PhD, he won a competitive position as a Research Support Technician at the Autonomous University of Madrid, joining the research project “The image of Roma in documentaries (2020-T1/HUM-20231)” as coordinator. He has conducted research at the National University of San Martín (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Loughborough University London (London, United Kingdom), and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico City, Mexico). He has been a member of scientific committees, organized seminars, and participated in teaching innovation projects. He has participated as a speaker and panel coordinator in more than a dozen national and international conferences. The field of study that best defines his research profile is Critical Romani Studies with an interdisciplinary approach.
